Looking for something fun to do in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area next month? Check out Holler Festival at New Riff Distilling on April 15. The event is a celebration of the state's craft distilling and brewing industries with 23 brewers and distillers participating at last count.
New Riff, which also operates Eight Ball Brewing at its Newport, KY location, is a logical host for the event, given its association with both brewing and distilling as well as its proximity to the large Cincinnati market.
"We are uniquely positioned here in Northern Kentucky, as we are deeply rooted in the Kentucky Bourbon tradition, but also part of a booming urban renaissance in Greater Cincinnati," said Hannah Lowen, VP of Operations and General Manager at New Riff. "Essentially, we wanted to create a space for us to introduce Greater Cincinnati to our Kentucky brethren, making high quality products."
With more barrels of bourbon than people, Kentucky is widely recognized as the hub of the bourbon world. The state's largest bourbon producers have a reputation of working well together to advance the industry and events like Holler Festival are showing the state's craft producers share a similar fraternal bond.
"We believe that bourbon, and especially beer drinkers are curious drinkers, and that exploration with our colleagues and, in some ways, our competition helps everyone," Lowen said. "It's really a tide lifts all boats scenario. The Heritage Bourbon distilleries have a long history of working together within the state, and we're seeing the same things with the smaller guys."
The breweries scheduled to participate are Eight Ball Brewing, Newport, KY; Country Boy Brewing, Lexington, KY; West Sixth Brewing, Lexington, KY; Good Wood Beer, Louisville, KY; Against the Grain Brewing, Louisville, KY; Alltech Lexington Brewing, Lexington, KY; Gordon Biersch Brewery, Louisville, KY; Apocalypse Brew Works, Louisville, KY; and Mash Cult Brewing, Florence, KY.
