One of the best horses in the world hit the track at Keeneland today . . . just not in the way you might think.
Lady Aurelia, a champion in Europe last year, is training at Keeneland in preparation for the Breeders' Cup. Trainer Wesley Ward is working Lady Aurelia out on the Keeneland turf course before the three-year-old filly ships to Del Mar for the Breeders' Cup.
Lady Aurelia has recorded four works on the Keeneland turf course and is scheduled to work once more at Keeneland before shipping to southern California. Lady Aurelia will start next in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar on Nov. 4.
Lady Aurelia has won 5 of 7 races and earned $814,945. Her big wins at Royal Ascot (England) and Deauville (France) propelled her to being named last year's champion two-year-old filly. This year, she has won at Keeneland and again at Royal Ascot.
The Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, which was inaugurated in 2008, includes both male and female horses. The race has twice been won by a filly when Mizdirection won the race in 2012 and 2013.
